You will find the apartment just a short walk south from the infamous gothic masterpiece Notre Dame Cathedral. Just wander along the Seine and you will find yourself in Paris’ famous Latin Quarter, named after the language once heard uttered in streets by professors and students of the nearby Sorbonne.
There are plenty of educational attractions to explore right on your doorstep. Indeed directly across the road form the apartment lies the National Natural History Museum (Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle) which sits within the 28 acre Jardin des Plantes. If you have time check out the Museum of Paleontology and Anatomy, the Museum of Geology here and the huge greenhouses containing amazing exotic plants. The glass houses are kept at tropical temperatures throughout the year so it’s a perfect place to explore on a cold day.
Head west from the apartment and discover one of the city’s less well known buildings, the beautiful Grande Mosquée de Paris or Great Mosque of Paris. This beautiful white building includes a 33 metre high minaret and was built in 1926 by the city in gratitude to the Muslim colonies of which 100,000 died fighting against Germany in World War I. The building went on to play another important role for the city in World War II when it became a secret refuge for Jewish children. It provided them shelter, fake Muslim birth certificates and ultimately safety from the Nazi regime. You may like to join one of the guided tours here, although we believe they are still only available in French. Alternatively you may prefer to simply relax in the excellent cafeteria which serves delicious eastern sweets and pastries. A visit here comes highly recommended.
