The south bank of the seine is just a four minute walk away. You will pass the Saint-Michel metro station on the way which gives you easy access to the whole city. Wander across the Pont Saint-Michel bridge to Ile de la Cite, the naturally formed island in the river. It is home to Notre Dame Cathedral which was of course made famous by Victor Hugo’s novel ‘The Hunchback of Notre Dame’.

Take the bridge over to the north side of the Sein and wander west along the embankment until you come to the world’s most visited art gallery and museum, the Louvre. This huge building is not just home to the Mona Lisa it also houses another 34,999 other important historical artefacts and artworks worth visiting. If you are determined to see the Mona Lisa then look out for the longest queue of people. Be sure to get to the gallery as early in the day as possible to see all the exhibits possible. It has the potential to be a very long day indeed with 652,300 square feet of exhibition space to explore.
